Time, in its own rhythm.
Current tithi and sunrise-based pañcāṅga are kept distinct.
BODHA · UNDERSTAND THE CALENDAR
Twelve degrees. One tithi.
Follow the changing difference in the geocentric ecliptic longitudes of Candra and Sūrya.
SŪRYA–CANDRA DĪRGHĀṂŚA
Geocentric direction diagram, not physical orbits or scale. Longitudes are interpolated between hourly calculation samples; the tithi boundaries use solved transition times.
01
A tithi is not 24 hours.
Each tithi spans 12° of relative ecliptic longitude. The Sun and Moon do not maintain a perfectly constant relative speed, so the durations vary.
02
Sunrise identifies a day.
The interval can begin at any hour. Its presence at local sunrise gives the calendar’s day label; an interval may include zero, one or two sunrises.
03
Observance has its own rule.
A vrata or festival may depend on sunrise, evening, moonrise or another window. This review stores reference observance dates separately instead of inventing a universal rule.
Definitions here are authored explanations of the calculation model. Ritual explanations are not marked śāstra-verified. See Pramāṇa for technical and calendar references.
